Being Mission-Minded in a Broken Western Culture

by Dale Partridge

The United States of America, the once “Christian nation,” is now in many ways leading our culture away from its historic moral values. As a result, Western culture is fiercely divided and growing more distant by the month. As Christians, how are we to operate in this chaos?

In other words, as followers of Christ, what is our duty in upholding righteousness and pursuing peace? Further, what role does the Gospel play in restoring order to our fallen culture? Pastor Dale Partridge tackles these questions by looking to the Scriptures for direction in the midst of our current political turbulence.

This Episode’s Question

“Hi Pastor Dale, this year has shown me how divided our country really is. In fact, I can’t see any path of reconciliation going forward. As a Christian, I want to help bring unity between “the left” and “the right” but I am very discouraged. Do you have any ideas for how I can be a peacemaker in these volatile times?”

Scripture References

  • 2 Corinthians 5:16-20

“16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not [a]imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”

  • Matthew 28:18

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”

  • Matthew 9:37-38

“37 Jesus looked at the culture he was living in and how broken it was. He saw the great need and he said this to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
