How to Have Hope in a Hard Situation

by Dale Partridge

What is hope? The late R.C. Sproul summed it up nicely when he said, “Hope is called the anchor of the soul (Hebrews 6:19) because it gives stability to the Christian life. But hope is not simply a wish; rather, it is that which latches on to the certainty of the promises of the future that God has made.”

In a difficult and chaotic world, it’s important that Christians be the most level headed, sober, and self-controlled group of people in existence. We should be demonstrating the joy and peace of the Gospel, not the depression and anxiety that’s so commonly seen during trying times.

In this episode of Real Christianity, Dale Partridge discusses how Christians, through the grace of God, can be the billboards of hope in our communities.

Scripture References

  • 1 Peter 3:13-15

“Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…”

  • Matthew 5:46

“For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?”

  • Philippians 1:23-24

“I am hard-pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.”

  • Romans 8:18; 28-30

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us… And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.”
