How to Break Free From Pornography

by Dale Partridge

Do you look at pornography? If not, statistics say that you absolutely know someone who does. Sadly, many Christians view their pornography habit simply as sin they can’t shake when it may be a sign of something far more serious.

In this episode of Real Christianity, Dale looks at what the scriptures say about people who wallow in long-term and habitual sin. But more importantly, he offers the only true solution for breaking the bondage that comes with long-term pornography use.

This Episode’s Question

“Pastor Dale, I have been going to church for almost 10 years but I must confess that I have been looking at porn the entire time. I have what seems to be gaps of infrequency but at the end of the day, I keep returning to porn. I have read Scripture, prayed over it, and even fasted once but nothing seems to work. I want to be free, can you help?’

Scripture References

  • Matthew 7:21-23

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

  • 2 Corinthians 13:5

“Examine yourself to see if you’re in the faith.”

  • 1 John 3:4-10

“4 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. 8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God…”

  • Matthew 7:16-20

“So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.”
